The Fordham Corporate Law Center, in association with Morgan, Lewis & Bockius LLP, hosted the annual A.A. Sommer Lecture on Corporate, Securities and Financial Law on October 28, 2010. This year’s speaker was Peter J. Wallison, the Arthur F. Burns Fellow in Financial Policy Studies and the Co-Director of the Financial Policy Studies Program at the American Enterprise Institute. He is also a member of the Financial Crisis Inquiry Commission.
After introductory remarks from Corporate Law Center Director Sean J. Griffith and Ben Indek, a partner at Morgan, Lewis & Bockius, Mr. Wallison spoke about recent issues at the Securities and Exchange Commission. He delved into some of these problems, including the failure of the Commission’s regulatory system as well as the public’s perception that the SEC only wants to bring enforcement actions rather than solve systemic problems. Mr. Wallison also discussed the challenges faced by the SEC in the face of the new Dodd-Frank legislation. The program was followed by a question-and-answer session.
